Tate and l’Oil…..

Posted by cathedralofshit on June 29, 2010

Last night’s annual Tate summer party went with a pffft, as protesters against Tate’s sponsorship meant the usual nibbles in the Garden were taken inside to keep away from the nasty noisy men and their chanting and banners.
A renegade incident with some oil (treacle/molasses? Can anyone verify? Did anyone taste it?) caused actually little fuss at all and team CoS didn’t manage to witness the event, choosing to ignore the kerfuffle and keep their noses firmly jammed into their glasses of wine.
Tales spread more quickly than the offending slick – it was two children what done it/a man in an overcoat threw it.

It seems that Gavin Brown did indeed get an attack of ‘chicken shit’ and take down the amusing clip of art head honchos shooting the shit about Cattelan amongst others.

Come on Gavin – where’s that unique brand of ‘don’t give a fuck’ we know and love. Well, like. A bit. Did Uncle Larry tell you off?

Dirty Protests…

Posted by cathedralofshit on June 28, 2010

There have been some mutterings and murmurings about Tate Britain and their sponsorship from BP, or as they are newly titled “architects of an ecological holocaust“.
As instigators of one of the world’s most horrific ecological disasters, some people are finding it hard to join in with supping cocktails al fresco in Millbank’s garden.

Some artists are planning on picketing the event, but CoS are planning on taking BP down from the inside by drinking as much as humanly possible in the short party hours, finding the BP representative at the party, and carefully secreting our own mini ecological disasters in his pocket….

The Perfect Gallery

Posted by cathedralofshit on June 28, 2010

It seems Christian Jankowski has issued a kiss of death to London’s Pumphouse Gallery – after a project involving collaborating with a TV interior design show to develop and jazz up the gallery with a lick of tasteful Farrow and Ball paint and the removal of a few skirting boards, it’s closing.
Unable to secure Arts Council funding – primarily due to the hold on increasing the number of RFOs in the last year or so, and secondly because their programme, until the last couple of shows, hasn’t been worth the trip down south.

Perhaps that fancy paint job has made the local council realise the space’s earning potential as a hire-able venue…? Wedding venues anyone?

Mad Men

Posted by cathedralofshit on June 20, 2010

En route to London’s trendy East End from our home in Westbourne Grove to scope out some of the current tiresome shows, CoS were surprised to see East London’s finest number 8 bus (Old Ford Road to Holborn every six minutes) is currently carrying advertisements for this show.
With no collectors living east of Holborn and Larry clearly not courting ticket sales (yet), it seems it’s better to waste money on advertising than pay it in tax to the Tories.

In other Larry-based news, this was sent to us… it’s on Gavin Brown’s ‘blog’ and is funny, if you an make out the words.

Despite the American Apparel-esque marketing campaign. this year’s Berlin Biennial was, we hear, like watching World in Action backwards in a tunnel. No dayglo socks in sight.
One brief highlight was seeing Maurizio Cattelan in Petrit Halilaj’s chicken run installation. Pecked on the foot the indignant Cattelan took it upon himself to punish the offending fowl, Borat style, by spinning it about his head and then placing the dizzy bird upon the shoulder of a female companion. The poor invigilator didn’t know what to do. Call the RSPCA we cried, before heading off to tuck into ANOTHER veal schnitzel.

Some stuff that happened.

Posted by cathedralofshit on June 1, 2010

Hi. Sorry to have been a little slow of late. We all got a variant of swine-flu. A type described as ‘latent, slow-moving and often dormant’ – frighteningly in keeping with our blogging. Morale sure is low here in the CoS offices.

News in from a mole at Haunch of Venison has informed us that Harry Blain and Graham Southern are jumping ship from Haunch of Venison. The gallery is also heading back to its original home in early 2011. What will happen to what was the Museum of Mankind is yet to be mentioned anywhere.

Our chirpy insider also added; “every minute I have to spend in this place makes me want to die”.

We, here at CoS are very excited. Who will they reopen with? We’re hoping Bill Viola or Rina Banerjee. Or both. A collaborative show.
What a dream.
