Spunk On My Tits JMW!

Posted by cathedralofshit on April 11, 2011

CoS is looking forward to the opening of Turner Contemporary in Margate this week. Turner Contemporary is, along with a ‘string’ of other organisations, bafflingly described by ACE insiders as their ‘pearl necklace‘ in a moment of unfortunate press-releas-ese “It will establish the gallery in the ‘string of pearls’ of prestigious cultural attractions along the South Coast, which includes the Turner Contemporary at Margate, the Folkestone Triennial, the Towner in Eastbourne, and the De la Warr Pavilion”.

Fittingly, the Turner is built on the site of J.M.W. Turner’s mistress’s boarding house.

To be fair the Towner and the De la Warr are always worth a visit but Folkestone is a bit of desert since they closed the Metropole gallery – sure there is the Triennial but that is (as you might expect) only every three years.

Oh and of course the Jerwood are opening a Coffee Shop in Hastings.

Must be the cost savings include the press office being run by disgraced hacks from the News of the World. Expected more pun head lines of ‘Turner is Good with Colours’ type.

Must be a tough choice for Will Gompertz this week. Trip to the coast to cover Margate of post another puff piece for Tate Modern. I think play safe and do puff of the Miro show.

Yes, Miro on the BBC 10 O’Clock News last night. Another spurious ‘news’ story about just how very busy exhibitions are and how the Tate will manage this. I suppose we should feel lucky it wasn’t about SUMARRIA LUNN. How much do you reckon it would cost to buy the Gomp?

Silly buggers, they tried to use “string of pearls” for a thing along the Thames a few years until someone brought it up at and the organizers went bright red.

I went to the Turner and there was nothing in it apart from some paper lanterns, a light bulb on a revolving stick, and some signs pointing the way to the coffee shop. Reckon it’ll be open this time next year…?
