Let no one say Jay Jopling’s squeeze Rachael Barrett is hiding behind her man — this is a girl with a “full-circle cultural zeitgeist” of her own. (Get it? Cubes? Circles? Cute, no?). And lucky thing for Jay, for without her, who else could provide fair and balanced reporting on the many outstanding artistic endeavours one can see all over London, just by going to one of the White Cubes?
I, for one, am glad that someone has been brave enough to end the “critical radio silence” that had hitherto blanketed Masons Yard, where New Order “may be classified as one of the great group shows of the year.” Meanwhile, over at Hoxton Square, where she’ll “try hard not to show any bias, after meeting the artist [or sleeping with the owner of the gallery],” Friedrich Kunath gets “ten out of ten in my books for achieving that rare synergy of providing both a critically sound and playfully enjoyable cultural experience.”
Stay on the edge of your seats for May, kids. Who can guess if the Baselitz show is going to fly or flop?

A new art centre will open in Kiev in the future courtesy of steel gazillionaire Victor Pinchuk.
That’s great news for White Cube then.

Are you a fan of Radio Four? Thought so. Us too. Especially Gardeners’ Question Time, Front Row, and You and Yours.
Well, you’ll thank us then. Should you be listening in on Friday 2nd Oct, turn off and listen to a half hour of anything else between 7.15pm and 7.45pm as Damien Hirst will be ‘discussing’ his ‘painting’ on Front Row.
Hirst will be showing a series of works from ’06 – ’08 at the Wallace Collection, where one of White Cube’s silky-tongued staff has managed to convince them to show Hirst’s tat alongside their collection. In his own words, the works are “deeply connected to the past.” Profound.

Grown-ups went to The London Art Book Fair which offered a great opportunity for booksellers and publishing people to undercut the Whitechapel’s resident franchise Koenig Books. Adding insult to injury, the Whitechapel’s ever reliably crap marketing department even boasted of “up to 40% off publications” on its own website. The Fair was of course highjacked by White Cube who organised a rather vulgar booksigning by Ms Tracey Emin.
